Reasons to Visit India

The people are the reason that India is such a successful country – they are funny, friendly, and helpful. You will truly see people who are in love with their lives when you are here. Of course, visiting the Taj Mahal is also one of the main reasons people go, but the rest of the architecture is pretty amazing as well.

If you like “Indian food” in your home country, you have no idea what you are missing. The food here is out of this world and the flavors are like some that you’ve never tasted before.

Many people come here for religious reasons as well, making it a great places for families..

Best Attractions for Your Family in India

Mysore Palace

Mysore Palace

The Mysore Palace is a gorgeous palace that lights up on Sunday nights and all public holidays. There are also light shows with sounds every other day of the week from 7 AM to 7:45 PM. For many families this should be enough. However, there are also tours throughout the building as well. Remember to use your common sense while on those tours.

Even better is that the authorities have banned photography and the use of cell phones here, so your family will be able to pay attention to the event, not technology, making it even more memorable. Note that you will have to remove your footwear before going inside.

Picnic at the Lodhi Garden in New Delhi

One of the very few places you will be able to find space in India is the Lodhi Gardens in New Delhi. This is a 90-arcre park that is popular with families who need space to let children run off some energy. The gardens around is are beautiful, you’ll learn a bit of history from the 15th century Mughal tombs, and kids will love to see the color birds. Bring a picnic!

India Gate

India Gate – the biggest war memorial of India

For a little bit of history and education on your trip, visit in India Gate. This is 42 meter high war memorial that was built to remember and honor the Indian soldiers that fought in World War I. It is usually a popular spot for families and friends who buy foods from nearby trucks and come to enjoy the food.

Children love it because there is a huge playground that is filled with swings, climbing frames, and slides. This isn’t the most modern playground, but it is still one of the most popular.

Delhi By Cycle

There is a lot to see in Delhi, one of the most popular places to travel with teens and older children. Walking can be a bit dangerous as times because of all the activity and you won’t get to see as much. In order to get the most out of it, book a guided bicycle tour that will take you through the streets. You’ll see the Mughal capital, the Spire Market, Red Fort, and the tranquil area in Civil Lines. If you have a larger family, you can get an exclusive tour.

Salaam Baalak Trust Walk

Another option is the Salaam Baalak Trust Walk. This is fun by a charity that helps homeless children. You will be teaching your children about helping others while still enjoying time with them. You will be helping children get health care, access to schools, a home, clothing, and even a future.

It is a fascinating and sad look at how Delhi’s street children live. There are thousands of them and this will teach your children (and you!) to appreciate what you have.

National Rail Museum

The National Rail Museum is a favorite for children, particularly those who are on the younger side. There are 10-acres of rail-related exhibitions, include ones that children will be able to play on and learn from. Sometimes the museum becomes a little run down, but you’ll have to excuse the dust, this is part of being an interactive display.

Make sure to plan ahead and pick the day when a toy train is running throughout the grounds.

Is India a Good Place to Travel With Kids?

Yes and no. India is fast paced and a little crazy at times, so you’ll have to keep track of them just a little more than you usually do. You should also look out for some of the shadier characters that you can find in India, as they do lurk around every corner. Your best bet is to travel with older children who know a little bit more about the world.

If you do travel with younger children, it is suggested that you get one of the carriers that will allow you to remain in constant contact with them.
